Unlike other cancers that progress quickly and metastasize, this brain tumor advances slowly, imposing years of treatments. \u201cWe were told we\u2019re in for at least 15 years of struggle and treatments.\u201d Mathilde understands: this is a long-term battle. Every day is a new challenge, and every victory, no matter how small, is essential.<\/p>\n<p>In six years, Of\u00e9lia has already endured numerous medical procedures. \u201cThese treatments have stabilized the tumor,\u201d Mathilde shares, \u201cbut they haven\u2019t managed to eliminate it completely.\u201d Today, Of\u00e9lia is on a \u201ctreatment break,\u201d but it is a fragile pause. The tumor is still present, remaining a constant threat. \u201cIt\u2019s very complicated for family life,\u201d adds Mathilde. And despite this break, the uncertainty looms over the family every day.<\/p>\n<h2>Advances in research bring hope to families<\/h2>\n<p>According to Mathilde, pediatric cancer is still too unknown, yet it affects thousands of families each year. In total, 35,000 children and teenagers are diagnosed with cancer annually across Europe. Mathilde issues a clear call to action: \u201cWe need to fund research. Current treatments are not enough to conquer some of these resilient tumors\u201d like Of\u00e9lia\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>As parents, Mathilde and so many other families are dependent on advances in research. They eagerly await clinical trials that will offer new therapeutic options for their little warriors. \u201cEven with the risks of side effects, we want to move forward,\u201d she says.
