An MRI scan revealed a mass\u2026 and so began the fight against cancer for little Ma\u00eblle, who was just three years old. Ma\u00eblle underwent intense chemotherapy treatments, and today, she is in complete remission. Each year, 2,500 children in France and 35,000 across Europe are diagnosed with cancer. There are now 100 different types of pediatric cancer. Her parents suspected mononucleosis, but a sudden onset of convergent strabismus quickly changed everything. \u201cWe went to the emergency room right away,\u201d recalls Anne-Laure. After an MRI scan, doctors discovered a mass. Within hours, Ma\u00eblle was transferred to Necker Hospital for an emergency operation, followed three days later by a 10-hour surgery to remove the tumor.<\/p>\n<p>Chemotherapy treatments then began to treat Ma\u00eblle. Fortunately, her tumor was known to the doctors, which meant that suitable treatments were available and the chances of remission were high. By October 2021, less than a year after her diagnosis, Ma\u00eblle was declared in complete remission.<\/p>\n<p>While the end of treatments marked a huge victory, it did not end the fight for Ma\u00eblle and her family. \u201cNow we are in the remission phase, which is very good news, but it is also another phase,\u201d explains Anne-Laure. Remission is the stage of rebuilding after the brutal treatments. Ma\u00eblle had to relearn to walk, run, and jump. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible to see what she\u2019s capable of today,\u201d her mother says, admiring her daughter\u2019s resilience.<\/p>\n<h2>The Essential Role of Imagine for Margo in the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer<\/h2>\n<p>For Anne-Laure, the association Imagine for Margo played a pivotal role throughout this journey. The association supports pediatric cancer research, and Anne-Laure believes it is crucial to invest even more in this cause. \u201cWe need accessible treatments for all children. Currently, 20% of children with cancer don\u2019t survive, and advancing research to increase this survival rate is vital,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>The support provided by the association doesn\u2019t stop at the hospital. Even after treatments end, families continue to benefit from the association&#8217;s initiatives. According to Anne-Laure, the impact of this ongoing support is immense.<\/p>\n<h2>The Resilience of Children: A Testament to Strength and Hope<\/h2>\n<p>Anne-Laure is in awe of her daughter\u2019s ability to bounce back after such an ordeal. \u201cChildren have incredible resilience. They can absorb and overcome challenges that we, as adults, struggle to even imagine,\u201d she says. Despite the tumor and intense treatments, Ma\u00eblle has demonstrated remarkable resilience.<\/p>\n<p>During her battle, Ma\u00eblle formed a special bond with Timon, a stuffed animal that accompanied her through her earliest surgeries. \u201cTimon helped us keep smiling and stay positive. He\u2019s one of the best gifts we could have had,\u201d Anne-Laure remembers fondly. This symbol of comfort shows just how much love can help us through even the darkest times.<\/p>\n<h2>A Call to Action: Join the Fight Against Childhood Cancer<\/h2>\n<p>Ma\u00eblle\u2019s story is one of hope, but also a powerful reminder of the importance of pediatric cancer research. Childhood cancer remains too unknown and underfunded.
