For Yann, his wife \u00c9milie, and their family, it was the brutal shock that all parents of children with cancer experience: confusion, fear, and the forced entry into a medical world they had never known before.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"1124\"><em data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"1124\">&#8220;We\u2019re not experts. When we enter this world, we know absolutely nothing and we just try to pick up bits of information here and there.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1338\">Yann describes with clarity this period of disorientation \u2014 common to so many families \u2014 when you move forward blindly, trying to understand a universe with its own codes, its own protocols, and its own language.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1416\"><strong><em data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1416\">&#8220;We\u2019re not experts. When we enter this world, we know absolutely nothing.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"yegaoc\" data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1464\">Three years later: Elsy, the same diagnosis<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1639\">Then comes the unimaginable. Three years after Noah\u2019s diagnosis, his sister Elsy also develops <a href=\"https:\/\/imagineformargo.org\/en\/what-is-leukemia\/\">B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia<\/a> \u2014 exactly the same disease as her brother.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1954\">Two children. The same family. The same leukemia. This is no longer a coincidence that can simply be dismissed. For Yann and \u00c9milie, this recurrence raises unavoidable questions: why? Is it genetic? Is there a common factor? A risk of transmission? A risk of relapse for their children and for future generations?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1956\" data-end=\"2027\"><strong><em data-start=\"1956\" data-end=\"2027\">&#8220;It led us to ask many questions about the origin of these diseases.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2029\" data-end=\"2252\">These questions are not just those of worried parents. They are legitimate scientific questions that medicine does not always yet know how to answer. And it is precisely this lack of answers that pushed Yann to take action.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"a42zca\" data-start=\"2254\" data-end=\"2320\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/imagineformargo.org\/en\/15-victories-that-changed-the-game-in-the-fight-against-childhood-cancers\/\">France Genomic Medicine Plan:<\/a> the fight to enter the system<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2322\" data-end=\"2655\">While searching for answers, the family heard about the France Genomic Medicine Plan 2025 \u2014 a national program aimed at integrating genomics into the care pathway of certain patients. For Yann, this represented a concrete lead: what if genetic analysis could explain why two children from the same family developed the same leukemia?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2657\" data-end=\"2828\">The family prepared an application and applied to the program. A few months later, the answer came: rejected. The family did not meet the criteria of the current protocol.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2830\" data-end=\"2910\"><strong><em data-start=\"2830\" data-end=\"2910\">&#8220;It upset us a little. At that moment, our motivation came partly from anger.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2912\" data-end=\"3198\">Yann could have kept that anger to himself. Instead, he chose to turn it into momentum. The family spoke publicly through a press release. The media picked up the story. Yann sought meetings at the highest level \u2014 even reaching Madame Macron, who directed them toward Imagine for Margo.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3200\" data-end=\"3329\">Eventually, the case was reassessed. The family finally learned they would be able to join the France Genomic Medicine Plan 2025.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"gjc62c\" data-start=\"3331\" data-end=\"3367\">Why this genetic question matters<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3369\" data-end=\"3598\">The Decker family\u2019s situation raises a question that pediatric oncology research is only just beginning to seriously explore: are there genetic factors that predispose certain children \u2014 or certain siblings \u2014 to develop leukemia?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3600\" data-end=\"3966\">Today, the vast majority of pediatric cancers are considered sporadic, meaning non-hereditary. But cases like Noah and Elsy\u2019s raise important questions.
