The Children without Cancer City race returns on May 30, 2024 to Paris La Défense!

Enfants sans Cancer City 2024

The Imagine for Margo association, which has organized the Children without Cancer race in Saint-Cloud and connected since 2012, launched in 2018, the Children without Cancer City race in La Défense, in order to mobilize businesses and individuals in the neighborhood of business in Paris and surrounding areas.

On May 30, this unique urban race will return to the Place de la Défense. For a few hours, all the runners from Paris La Défense and the Île-de-France region will be able to use their solidarity strides and run (or walk) for 5 or 10km for a world with children without cancer.

Indeed, like every year, all of the funds collected will be donated to research to fight against pediatric cancers. This year, the association has decided to focus its efforts, via its Fight Kids Cancer call for projects, on brain tumors. The second form of childhood cancer after leukemia, this type of disease affects more than 3,000 little warriors in Europe each year.

Patricia Blanc, Founding President of Imagine for Margo: “Over the last 30 years, the treatment and healing of children and adolescents affected by brain tumors has made very little progress. Thanks to the Children Without Cancer races and Fight Kids Cancer, we want to act and change this intolerable situation.

The research programs funded by Imagine for Margo via the Fight Kids Cancer call for projects will be communicated in June.

A solidarity race labeled by the Great National Cause 2024

The Children without Cancer City 2024 race will have the honor of being labeled, by the Ministry of Sports, as a sporting event forming part of the Great National Cause 2024 “Move Every Day”.

Indeed, for a year, the French government chose to make a nation through sport by putting it at the heart of our country’s public policies. The objective is to take advantage of the momentum generated by the Olympic and Paralympic Games in order to respond to the health emergency linked to the progression of a sedentary lifestyle and addiction to screens.

Amélie Oudéa – Castera, Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games:

Patricia Blanc, Founding President of Imagine for Margo: “Sport and solidarity have gone hand in hand for more than 12 years with the Children without Cancer race! We are proud and delighted that our charity event is today part of the Great National Cause 2024. Running against pediatric cancers, moving for the health of thousands of children who are fighting against the disease, but also for your own is one of our objectives since the creation of our races. I will only have one message to convey: join us and together “let’s move” to create a world with cancer-free children. »

Imagine for Margo will therefore have the honor, alongside the Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, of getting thousands of French people moving during its solidarity races. The participants who will run against pediatric cancers on May 30 on the square in front of Paris La Défense will also be part of the Great National Cause 2024 project.

Four editions organized in 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023:

Nearly 4,000 runners, 120 participating companies and 879,000 euros collected which helped finance 4 research programs:

  • CoBioRB in 2023, aiming to identify genetic biomarkers to improve risk-stratified treatment in retinoblastoma.
  • SACHA study in 2022, to guarantee secure access to medicines outside of clinical trials. With this program, Imagine for Margo allows all children with cancer to benefit from the same chances of access to innovative treatments and advances in research.
  • BIOMEDE IA in 2019, the first artificial intelligence program on infiltrative gliomas of the brainstem, a pediatric cancer with a very poor prognosis.
  • SELUDEX in 2018, a therapeutic trial on anaplastic large cell lymphomas.

Why run against cancer ?

Cancer is the leading cause of death from disease among children in France and Europe. 1 in 440 children develop cancer before the age of 15. Despite the progress and scientific advances in recent years, for 20% of children and adolescents with cancer, no treatment is yet available.

Cancer research is mainly focused on adult cancers, with childhood cancers being considered rare diseases with more than 100 different types. Very little funding is therefore allocated to pediatrics.

This is why Imagine for Margo has been mobilizing since its creation in 2011 and organizing the Children without Cancer solidarity races; a festive and friendly event which allows people to mobilize around the cause and collect donations for research, thanks to a unique model:

  • Each participant undertakes to collect a minimum of €200.
  • 100% of donations collected by participants are allocated to research, thanks to partners who cover the costs of the race.

A godmother with a big heart

Sarah Ourahmoune, the most decorated French boxer in Europe and the world, has decided to get involved alongside Imagine for Margo to fight against childhood cancer by becoming a sponsor of the race : “Being a sponsor of the Children without Cancer City race means supporting research against pediatric cancers and helping to save lives! I feel even more concerned because I am a mother and no child should have to fight this disease!”
