“EAT ? NOT EVEN AFRAID!” THE IMAGINE FOR MARGO NUTRITION GUIDE

Manger ? Même pas peur - Livret nutrition - Imagine for Margo

For taste week 2023, we have decided to act for the taste buds of the little warriors who are fighting cancer. During illness, the subject of nutrition is often a real problem for parents. The cause… very toxic treatments which alter the taste of children and young people.

Change in taste, modified diet, adverse effects due to medication… meals become challenges that it is important to overcome in order to provide your body with all the nutrients essential for combat. Unfortunately, very often, families are left to fend for themselves, as evidenced by Patricia Blanc, Founding President of Imagine for Margo: “When my daughter Margo was struck by an aggressive brain tumor, my husband and I decided to often found unanswered. However, the subject of nutrition is vital and complex for children and adolescents affected by the disease. Salty, sweet, sour, bitter… tastes can be disturbed, without forgetting the inconveniences of certain medications (nausea, mucositis, etc.). This can therefore cause a real problem for their diet, blockages, fears… and therefore complicate each child’s fight against illness. A fight that requires benefiting from a well-defined and complete nutritional intake. »

It is to support the 2,500 families who each year in France are confronted with this subject that we have decided to produce a guide allowing the meal to become a moment of “well-being”, pleasure and complicity for parents and children. children affected by the disease.

The latter was carried out as part of Carrefour’s Boucles du Cœur, in collaboration with doctors and dietitians from the SFCE (French Society for the Fight against Cancer and Leukemia in Children and adolescents), large Chefs and Nutricia from DANONE.

Flocked with a famous “GO, EAT, WIN!” “, this nutritional guide aims to understand the issues of diet during treatments, give tips and advice for better managing the nutritional side at home, cooking as a family, rediscovering the desire and pleasure of eating, providing well-being to better heal and break down fears about nutrition during illness.

Indeed, this book, which is intended to be useful and fun for every family, offers:

  • 27 recipes created by great chefs
  • 7 recipes adapted to the side effects of treatments proposed by an American Chef specializing in oncology
  • 6 enriched recipes and recipes based on nutritional supplements in collaboration with Nutritia by Danone
  • Multiple tips and tricks aimed at informing and answering the various questions that families may ask. This part was carried out thanks to the help of SFCE dieticians and testimonies from parents confronted with the disease.

In this guide, there is something for everyone. It ranges from the surprise brioche imagined by Yves Camdeborde to the succulent Mac & Cheese by Juan Arbelaez, including a gourmet and crunchy escargot pizza from Cyril Lignac or the choco palet from chef Aurélien Rivoire. Whether you are sweet or savory, you will find in this guide all the flavors to delight your taste buds as well as that of your little warriors.

A GUIDE PRODUCED THANKS TO THE 2021 BOUCLES DU CŒUR HEART LOOP OPERATION CONDUCTED BY CARREFOUR

Since 2011, the “Les Boucles du Cœur” operation has been organized by Carrefour to support associations working against children in difficulty. Every year, Carrefour stores mobilize to raise funds for the association of their choice. They can choose a local association that is close to their heart or support the national association.

In 2021, for the 10th edition of Boucles du Cœur, after having been chosen for three years as the local association to benefit from this operation by the Carrefour de Chambourcy, Imagine for Margo was selected as one of the three national associations.

Donations collected thanks to the generosity of Carrefour customers were used to finance this booklet, the aim of which is to restore taste to the plates of thousands of sick children and their families. A project that is in line with the values of Carrefour, the food transition and help for children in difficulty.

Patricia Blanc, Founding President of Imagine for Margo: “Thanks to the Boucles du Cœur 2021 action led by Carrefour, which I warmly thank, we will be able to discuss this problem of nutrition during illness by offering a practical, fun and especially free for the thousands of families who are confronted with this subject every year. This project is the fruit of everyone’s work and everyone’s desire to improve the diet of sick children, while delighting the taste buds of young and old alike! »
